Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced that he will personally deliver the official results of the Edo Governorship Election to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

In a statement made just before his departure to Abuja, Akpabio revealed that he received the results sheet from Edo State APC Chairman Jeret Tenebe for submission to President Tinubu, GCFR. He emphasized that this handover followed the party’s successful performance in the election, which resulted in Okpebholo being declared the Governor-elect.

“I was presented with a copy of the results sheet by the Edo State chairman, Jeret Tenebe, shortly before my departure to Abuja. This will be transmitted to our party leader and President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Akpabio stated.

The APC’s victory in Edo State is celebrated as a significant achievement for the party, with Senator Okpebholo triumphing in a closely contested race. The election, characterized by high voter turnout, has further strengthened the party’s position in the region.

Akpabio expressed confidence in the Governor-elect’s capacity to guide Edo State towards sustained growth and development, building upon the accomplishments of the outgoing administration.

He also commended the APC leadership and the people of Edo for their strong support throughout the electoral process.

Senator Okpebholo’s victory is regarded as a testament to the APC’s strong presence in Edo State and the confidence the electorate has in its leadership. As Akpabio prepares to present the results to President Tinubu, the APC celebrates yet another significant political milestone, highlighting its influence and strategy as it looks ahead to future elections.

In a separate development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has praised the residents of Edo State for their impressive turnout during the 2024 governorship election. In a statement released on Sunday, the Forum commended the electorate for their dedication to democracy and for engaging in a peaceful electoral process to select their next leader for the upcoming four years.

The Forum noted that Edo State, home to the historic Benin Kingdom, has once again showcased its strong democratic values. It expressed confidence in the achievements of the current administration under Governor Godwin Obaseki, asserting that his successes, along with the qualifications of the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, likely played a significant role in shaping voter preferences.
