Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested the village head of Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area, for allegedly shooting his sister during a quarrel over palm fruits.
The State Police Command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday. She said the victim, 32-year-old Unwana Effiong Friday Inyang, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
John explained that operatives apprehended the suspect, Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, after receiving a report of attempted murder on Saturday, 6 September 2025, at about 2:30 p.m. Police recovered a long, single-barrel gun believed to have been used in the attack.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the incident resulted from a misunderstanding over ownership of a palm fruit plantation,” John added.
