Alleged anti-party activities: Ekiti PDP recommends Fayose’s dismissal

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the expulsion of former Governor Ayodele Fayose for allegedly undermining the party’s interests within the state.

During a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, PDP Caretaker Chairman Dare Adeleke stated that the recommendation for Fayose’s expulsion arose from his purported anti-party activities, including his public endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adeleke explained that this recommendation forms part of the submissions made to the Tom Ikimi-led Disciplinary Panel and the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Reconciliation Committee. His comments followed Fayose’s recent assertion on a television programme that the PDP was “dead” in Ekiti State.

On Saturday, while inaugurating the Dehead/Faglo Road and a completed electrification project, Fayose reiterated his support for Oyebanji’s bid for a second term. He praised the governor, stating, “I am very proud of you. You have done well. We will continue to support you. You have made significant progress in development. I challenge anyone to say otherwise; I will stand by you.”

However, Adeleke responded by saying that Fayose’s actions had brought embarrassment to the PDP and could mislead the public regarding the party’s true values. He urged the national leadership to expel Fayose and his associates, warning that their continued presence in the PDP would be detrimental since their loyalty no longer lies with the party.

“The PDP has established a disciplinary committee led by Chief Tom Ikimi, and we (the Caretaker Committee) have met with them. Our stance is clear: Ayo Fayose must be expelled from the party,” he asserted.

Regarding Fayose’s comments, Adeleke stated, “Fayose is no longer a member of the PDP. What he says now only serves to flatter his new boss, Oyebanji. If the governor has visited Fayose’s house 18 times in two years, what is he doing there? Is he there to share Ekiti’s funds?”

Adeleke accused Fayose of seeking to enrich himself further and suggested that his praise for Oyebanji was insincere. “He is likely doing this for financial gain from Oyebanji, who will surely oblige him. Fayose is a man who wants everything for himself.”

The PDP Caretaker Chairman questioned the basis for supporting Oyebanji, claiming that his administration had failed in infrastructure, healthcare, security, and education over the past two years. “There is a noticeable lack of infrastructure in Ekiti, and the health sector is in a dire state,” he stated.

Adeleke urged Fayose to officially defect from the party rather than aligning himself with an opposing faction and misleading others for his own benefit. He emphasised the need to strengthen the Ekiti PDP, arguing that Fayose’s actions only weakened their collective efforts.

“Our focus must remain on rebuilding the Ekiti PDP. I encourage all party members to stay united and avoid distractions that could derail our progress,” he added. “We must support the Local Government Caretaker Committees as they work to restore our party’s strength at all levels in Ekiti State.”

Adeleke called on the people of Ekiti to remain calm, patient, and vigilant, stating, “In 2026, we must reject this cycle of neglect and choose leadership that genuinely prioritises our collective well-being and development.”
