The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Usman Yusuf, a former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), on a five-count amended charge of alleged fraud.

The arraignment took place before Justice Chinyere Nwecheonwu at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kuje, Abuja.

Yusuf pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following this, his counsel, O.I. Habeeb, requested that he be kept in EFCC custody until the bail application hearing.

However, Justice Nwecheonwu clarified that once arraigned, the defendant must be transferred to correctional custody.

The court adjourned the case to February 12, 2025, and ordered Yusuf to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre until his bail hearing.

The charges against Yusuf include allegations of using his position to gain undue advantages and awarding contracts between 2016 and 2017 without adhering to proper procurement procedures.
