On Saturday, tragedy struck at Ikare Akoko, the administrative center of Ondo State’s Akoko North-East Local Government Area as Gunmen attacked the neighborhood and killed two security guards.

After killing the victims, the bandits reportedly cut off their heads and hands. Two distinct parts of the town were the sites of the attacks.

An eyewitness reported that one of the attacks happened at the well-known Mimiko market and the other at the nearby NASFAT schools.

The eyewitness said, “The deceased was found in the pool of blood this Saturday morning. The gunmen killed one of the guards and cut off his head and placed the head beside his body. The other man’s hand was cut after he had been killed, and the dismembered hand was also placed beside him. The killers did not take anything from the deceased before they left the scene.”

The alleged bandits’ actions during the attack raised the possibility of ritual killing, the eyewitness continued.

It was discovered that the men who transported the deceased’s corpse to the mortuary at the Ondo State Specialists Hospital, Ikare Akoko, were members of the Nigeria Police, Ikare Division.

When contacted, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and said an investigation had begun.

“We have commenced an investigation into the incident,” the PPRO said.
