Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, have arrested 28 suspects for various crimes across the state, including a 55-year-old alleged serial rapist, Ayodele Ijidakinro, who recently completed a three-year jail term for a similar offense.

Parading the suspects on Monday at the Amotekun Corps headquarters in Akure, the Ondo Amotekun Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that 24 suspects were detained for breaches of law and order, one for a herders/farmers clash, and three for kidnapping.

Among the suspects are three alleged kidnappers—Akpan, Alimi, and Emmanuel—apprehended in Akure, Emure, and Upeme-Owo, respectively.

One Adu Ojo, reportedly specialized in ATM fraud, was also paraded. He allegedly trapped victims’ cards, retrieved them using a secret code, and drained their accounts.

Other arrests included:

  • Mafo and Asara for conspiracy and rape.
  • Idris Umaru for illegal grazing on a farmer’s land and using underage herders.
  • Oluwafemi, Francis, and Sunday for burglary.
  • Lawal for stealing mobile phones and pumping machines.
  • Ismaila Kazim for attacking commercial motorcyclists, stealing their motorcycles, and selling them.

The suspected serial rapist, Ijidakinro, who had served a three-year sentence for rape and was released in February 2023, admitted to raping three women. However, he claimed his victims were not among the six who testified against him.

One of his victims (name withheld) recounted her ordeal, stating that Ijidakinro lured her by pretending to procure agrochemical products she sells. While carrying her on his motorcycle, he sped into the bush, prompting her to jump off to escape. However, he caught her, overpowered her, and raped her.

Commander Adeleye stated that the 28 suspects would undergo final profiling, with those found guilty to be charged in court.
