Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has assured the public that British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua and another individual involved in a road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway are receiving top-quality medical attention, as investigations into the crash have begun.
The governor made this known on Monday through a statement shared on his official Facebook page, confirming that the accident involved a vehicle carrying Joshua and three other occupants.
He stated that the vehicle reportedly collided with a stationary truck, an incident that unfortunately claimed the lives of two people.
Abiodun said the Ogun State Government is collaborating closely with the Lagos State Government to manage the situation and ensure adequate care for those affected.
According to him, both states are actively monitoring developments and have taken steps to guarantee that the injured receive appropriate medical treatment, while investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
The governor expressed his sympathies to the families of the victims, describing the loss as painful and irreparable, and prayed for strength for those mourning.
He disclosed that Joshua and another passenger were quickly taken to a specialised medical facility in Lagos, where they underwent medical evaluation.
Medical professionals, he said, confirmed that both individuals are in stable condition and do not require urgent medical intervention, adding that a full medical team has been assigned to continue monitoring them.
Abiodun also confirmed that Joshua was conscious after the crash and has been in communication with his family.
He thanked members of the public for their concern and appealed for privacy for Joshua and his family during this period.
In a separate joint statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser on Information in Ogun State, Kayode Akinmade, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, both state governments also extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
The statement assured the public that investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident and prayed for strength for the bereaved families.
