Former legal adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muiz Banire, SAN, has put forward the suggestion that the resignations of the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, and National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, might have been coerced rather than being voluntary decisions.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Muiz Banire discussed the recent developments within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His comments came shortly after Senator Abubakar Kyari was announced as the new APC National Chairman, and it was revealed that Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore had resigned from their positions as national officers of the party.

“I have been reading Mr Lukman Saliu for some time; he has been raising a lot of issues, particularly bordering on maladministration of the party, misappropriation funds and so on.

“Well, that could be part of it because I know as a matter of fact, in NWC sometimes those are usually issues that usually confronts or challenges the body.

“So, it’s not unlikely that it is as a result of such issues that have been in the public space for some time now; maybe it has reached its peak now and couldn’t be absorbed again. They probably reacted.

“I’m not too sure that the resignation could have been voluntarily, in my view, I might be wrong; I probably believe that maybe the pressure of other colleagues of theirs forced them eventually to tender their resignation,” Banire said.

The former legal adviser of the APC, expressed his view that the resignations of Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore were an unusual situation that must have been prompted by circumstances that are not immediately evident to the public.

He believes that the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Council (NEC) are aware of the factors that led to their sudden resignations.

Banire, who previously served as a Commissioner in Lagos State during President Bola Tinubu’s tenure as governor, defended the President, stating that he did not have any motivation to remove the party’s chairman, even if he did not support his bid for the presidency initially.

Banire suggests that it is more likely that dissatisfied members of the NWC played a role in Adamu’s resignation.

Senator Abubakar Kyari succeeded Senator Abdullahi Adamu as the APC’s chairman following a meeting of the National Working Committee in Abuja. Kyari officially announced the resignations of Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.

He also mentioned that Festus Fuanter, the Deputy National Secretary, will serve as the acting National Secretary of the APC in accordance with the party’s constitution.
