Nuhu Clark, a lawmaker-elect in the Borno House of Assembly for the Chibok constituency, has died.
Mr Clark died on Monday while receiving treatment in India.
In an interview on Wednesday in Maiduguri, Babakura Abbajatau, the commissioner for home affairs, information, and culture, confirmed the development.
After speaking with the deceased’s family, Mr Abbajatau stated that the state government would issue an official statement soon.
While mourning the deceased, Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur described the death as a huge loss to his immediate family, the people of southern Borno and the state.
Mr Kadafur described the death as a great loss to the All Progressives Congress (APC), given his outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Borno.
He commiserated with the immediate family of the late politician and prayed to God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Mr Clark was a former commissioner for poverty alleviation before resigning on April 25, 2022, to contest the Chibok state constituency election on the platform of APC.
