APC wins Ogoja/Yala constituency by-elections, PDP takes Akpabuyo
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Ogoja/Yala federal constituency by-elections in Cross River State.
Chief Jude Ngaji, the party’s candidate, was declared the winner by the returning officer, Dr Edor John of the University of Calabar’s philosophy department.
According to the results, the APC candidate received 22,778 votes, while the PDP candidate, Mike Usibe, received 20,590 votes.
In other results, Ongro Rock of the APM received 135 votes, Raphael Okacha of the APP received 75 votes, and Ogonyi Joseph of the PRP received 65 votes.
Following the announcement of the winner, Alphonsus Eba, Chairman of the APC, praised INEC for conducting a peaceful election.
Dr Ekeng of the PDP, on the other hand, won the Akpabuyo State Constituency seat.
He stated that, despite losing Akpabuyo, Ogoja/Yala was more important to them.
‘For now, we can only say that we shall meet as a party and look at the whole process again because our agent at INEC, Mr Jimmy Aniegie, has raised an objection regarding some polling units,’ said State PDP chairman Venatius Ikem.
‘From our end, we noticed that BVAS machines were not used in authenticating the results. So, we shall look into all that.’
