Appeal Court refuses to reverse removal of Amaewhule, 26 Rivers Assembly Members

The Court of Appeal Abuja has refused to reverse the removal of Martins Chike Amaewhule and 26 others as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

In a ruling issued virtually on Friday, the Appellate Court stated that issuing a verdict reversing the decision of a Federal High Court that declared their seats vacant would constitute to pre-judging the appeal currently before it.

The three-member tribunal also set June 20 as the hearing date for Amaewhule and others’ plea to reclaim their seats in the State House of Assembly.

The justices urged all parties involved in the case to maintain the status quo and refrain from engaging in any form of hostility until the matter was heard and concluded.
