Aregbesola supports community participation in tackling insecurity
The Minister of interior has encouraged Members of the nation’s diverse groups to actively participate in efforts to address the difficulties of insecurity that Nigeria is now facing.
Aregbesola said that the government shouldn’t be left to handle security alone and urged Nigerians to accept the challenge and help protect people and property.
The Minister made this statement soon after accepting the Award of Excellence from Egbe Atunluse Ile-Ijesa in Ilesa, Osun State, as part of events commemorating the group’s centennial anniversary.
Aregbesola, however, asserted that the nation was winning the battle against insurgency and other security challenges in a statement released on Sunday by his media adviser, Sola Fasure, who served as his representative at the event.
He also praised Egbe Atunluse Ile-Ijesa for their outstanding contributions to Ijesa’s growth over the previous century, stating that no country could advance without the help of its people.
He said, “Security is our collective effort. We should not leave security matter to security agencies alone. We need community participation in the fight against insecurity. Everybody, irrespective of your status or area of residency must be active and supportive in safeguarding our nation.
“Our security agents need to be supported. If we leave security agencies to handle security issue alone, there will not be adequate security.
“We are collectively responsible for provision of security. The government will do its own while the people should also support the security agencies. We should report any suspicious move or person in our environment to the security agents.”
Speaking at the event, the Chairman, Egbe Atunluse Ile-Ijesa, Prof Olubunmi Obe, commended Aregbesola for his contributions to the development of Ijesa, saying the Minister deserved to be honoured.
