Arise News anchor and analyst Dr. Chiogo Constance Ikokwu has announced that she is stepping away from journalism to pursue a career in politics.

Widely respected for her role in holding authorities accountable and highlighting issues of public concern, Dr. Ikokwu explained that her decision was influenced by her direct exposure to gaps in governance and her belief that nations progress when capable and thoughtful individuals actively participate rather than remain observers.

Her move reflects a broader view that professionals with integrity, ideas, and a strong grasp of societal challenges should engage more directly in policymaking and leadership.

Dr. Ikokwu, who hails from Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, is seeking an opportunity to represent her people in the House of Representatives.

According to her, “This transition is, for me, a continuation of service, just on a different platform. I have had the privilege of telling the stories that shape our nation, holding power to account, amplifying underrepresented voices, and helping citizens make sense of complex issues. This journey has sharpened my understanding of our country’s challenges and opportunities, and it has reinforced my belief that informed, ethical leadership is essential to progress. It is from this vantage point that I have made the difficult but necessary decision to step into the political arena.”

She added, “My experience as a journalist has not only given me insight into governance but has also connected me directly to the everyday realities of our people – their frustrations, resilience, and aspirations. I have seen firsthand where policy succeeds and where it falls short, and I believe that those who understand these gaps must be willing to step forward and help close them. Politics should not be left only to career politicians; it must also be shaped by individuals with fresh ideas, integrity, and a genuine commitment to public service.”

Dr. Ikokwu expressed hope that her move would inspire more Nigerians who are passionate about the country’s future and equipped with the right ideas to take part in politics.

She described the present period as a crucial moment for Nigeria, calling for courage and shared responsibility among citizens.
