The Oyo State Police Command held a press conference on Friday, where they presented 21 individuals believed to be involved in armed robbery.
Among the suspects was a criminal gang responsible for the murder of Makanjuola Ogedengbe and the rape of his two daughters in Apaatuku/Onireke village, Akobo, located in the Lagelu Local Government area of the state.
The victims, aged 14 and 10, respectively, endured these heinous acts.
Adewale Osifeso, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, addressed the media during the parade at the command’s headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.
He stated that the suspects were cooperating with the police and providing valuable information.
Osifeso revealed that the armed suspects had launched their attack in the early hours of Sunday, May 14, 2023, around 2 am.
They brandished dangerous weapons and robbed residents of their belongings, while the deceased victim was shot at close range.
He said, “On May 14, 2023, at about 0400hrs, a group of armed robbers invaded Apaatuku/Onireke at Akobo area in Ibadan and robbed residents of their valuables. The assailants killed one Makanjuola Ogedengbe and raped his two daughters, aged 14 years and 10 years respectively during the incident.
“The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku for discreet investigation. During the investigation, it was revealed that one Ibrahim Rasaq ‘m’ 31 years, one Abiodun Olalekan ‘m’ 32 years, and one Abolade Morenikeji ‘m’ 34 years, who were earlier arrested in connection with the armed robbery operation at Sawia Estate at Ogbere in Ibadan, which was reported on April 16, 2023, were the same gang who invaded Apaatuku/Onireke community.
“The two daughters of the deceased were allegedly raped by Abolade Morenikeji ‘m’ and one Sodiq ‘m’ respectively. The said Sodiq, who was the group’s alleged leader was killed in the operation by the community security guards. The assailants also shot at the community’s night guard who is currently receiving treatment.
“On June 16 2023 at about 03300hrs, one Adebayo Salami ‘m’ who is a major receiver/informant of the group and landlord at Ajara Olohunda, Akobo in Ibadan was arrested in connection with the case.
“During interrogation, he confessed to having invited the group for the robbery operation at the Apaatuku area where one Makanjuola Ogedengbe ‘m’ was killed and his two daughters ages 14 and 10 years were deflowered by the robbery gang during the operation.”
In addition to the aforementioned case, the police also presented several other suspects during the parade who were allegedly involved in various crimes.
These crimes include armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, possession of items suspected to be Indian hemp, and attempted murder.
The police displayed these individuals to the public as part of their efforts to combat crime and maintain law and order in the community.
