Army cautions soldiers against drug abuse

The Nigerian Army has urged soldiers serving on active duty to stop abusing psychoactive substances excessively.

The service additionally forbade acts of insubordination or cowardice in operational theaters.

When on an operational visit to evaluate the combat readiness of frontline forces deployed to Gwoza, Major General Waidi Shaibu, the General Officer Commanding 7 Divisional and Commander Sector 1 Operation Hadin Kai, revealed this.

Shaibu urged soldiers to be tenacious and deal decisively with the terrorists from Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province within their Areas of Operations in a post on the Nigerian Army’s official Facebook page on Monday.

It partly read, “The GOC admonished the troops to remain courageous, disciplined and professional in routing the remnants of the BHTs and ISWAP terrorists, urging them to eschew all acts inimical to the actualisation of their operational mandate.

“He warned the troops that acts of indiscipline or cowardice would not be condoned, urging them to desist from substance abuse and be contended with their pay. He urged troops to maintain an offensive posture, charging them to remain vigilant at all times, while equally emphasizing that the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign was by no means over.”
