Troops of Sector 1 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have freed six abducted persons during a security operation in the Kajuru/Kujama axis of Kaduna State.

In a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Tuesday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 1 Division/Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, said the rescue occurred on January 5, 2026.

He explained that the operation was part of a series of coordinated security actions carried out across Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia, and Kagarko Local Government Areas, including border communities around Kauru.

“The operations were aimed at restricting the activities and freedom of movement of violent extremists within the Joint Operations Area.

“According to the military, troops of Sub-Sector 5 were already carrying out clearance operations in the Kujeni area when they received a distress alert on the activities of armed criminals around the Kasso adjoining hills. The troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the criminals with effective suppressive fire, forcing them to flee into the surrounding forest.

“Following the encounter, the troops exploited the area and successfully rescued six kidnapped victims. The victims were later handed over to representatives of Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council for reunification with their families,” Umar said.

The General Officer Commanding and Commander of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Wase, commended the troops for their professionalism and bravery.

He urged them to remain on maximum alert and sustain the aggressive operational tempo to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
