Army vows to eradicate crude theft, criminal vices in Delta

Brigadier-General Salisu Aliyu, Commander of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Delta State, is determined to eradicate crude oil theft and various criminal activities in the state.

Aliyu made this declaration during the inauguration of projects carried out by Lieutenant-Colonel AN Abubakar, the Commanding Officer of 181 Amphibious Battalion in Agbor, situated in the Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

He said, “Let me use this medium to reiterate the need for troops to sustain the tempo of the operations against crude oil theft in the state.

“The contributions of the Brigade towards the fight against crude oil theft and other criminal vices are equally appreciated. Therefore, we must sustain these achievements in support of national security for the economic prosperity of our nation.

“I must therefore acknowledge that this commissioning further avails me another opportunity to reaffirm the competence, commitment and achievements of the Brigade towards achieving the CoAS Philosophy.

“I am glad to note some of these achievements will create an enabling environment towards addressing the administrative and operational challenges of the unit.”

He further motivated the troops to exert their utmost effort in eradicating crude oil thieves and other criminals, assuring them that the home front is adequately secured.

Expressing appreciation for the Commanding Officer’s commendable projects, Aliyu conveyed his optimism that these initiatives would set the stage for the development of the barracks.

Aliyu encouraged officers to take full ownership of these projects and instill a positive maintenance culture to ensure that these substantial legacy projects benefit future generations of the Nigerian Army.

In his remarks, Lt.-Col Abubakar emphasized the significance of the auspicious occasion, recognizing the value that these projects would bring to the officers, soldiers, and their families in the unit.

He clarified that the facilities would undoubtedly create an enabling environment for them to perform their duties optimally, particularly with the assurance that the home front is well taken care of.

“The WOs and Sgt Mess will provide another enabling environment for our troops as well as their friends to relax and unwind after the day job.

“It has a five-bed room accommodation for guests on transit, a NAPEX and a restaurant. These were made available for ease of access to sumptuous meals and other necessities especially for the guests and families” he explained.

The accomplished projects also encompassed the installation of signposts along the highway to provide commuters with a sense of security and awareness regarding the existence of military barracks on the outskirts of the town. Additionally, a Guard Post and the connection of electricity lines to the soldiers’ accommodation were part of the completed initiatives.
