ASUU strike: We’re tired, NANS protests, blocks Benin-Ore Expressway
The National Association of Nigerian Students has shut down the Benin-Ore Expressway as part of its ongoing protest against the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ protracted strike as of the fourth day.
Massive demonstrations against what NANS called the “Federal Government’s carelessness” toward education, particularly in regards to addressing concerns with the striking professors, have been taking place since Tuesday.
Since February 14, 2022, ASUU has been on strike. Many students still have little hope of resuming classes because the union and the FG continue to disagree on a number of issues, including the welfare of lecturers, the revitalization of the university system, and payment platforms.
The PUNCH stated that earlier in the week, the Federal Government summoned ASUU before the Industrial Court over the strike on the grounds that the union had refused to call it off despite government involvement. The Federal Government was represented by Minister of Labor and Employment Chris Ngige.
Reacting in a video, Friday, on the protest ground, one of the protesters, chanted, “End ASUU strike now! We’re tired, enough is enough!
