Adamu Atiku, the eldest son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Adamu had drawn attention last month after he remained in the PDP while Ahmadu Fintiri and several commissioners in Adamawa State defected to the All Progressives Congress.

However, he has not yet revealed which political party he intends to join next.

Announcing his departure in a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon, he wrote, “My journey with the Peoples Democratic Party ends here. I sincerely thank the party for the opportunities and experiences I was privileged to have during my time as a member.”

Adamu also shared a copy of his resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman of Jada Ward 1, where he formally ended his membership without stating any specific reason.

“I hereby formally resign my membership of the PDP at Jada 1 Ward with immediate effect,” Adamu wrote in the letter dated March 4, 2026.

He expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve under its platform for several years and asked that the letter be accepted as official notice of his defection.

Adamu previously served as Commissioner for Works under Governor Fintiri since the governor assumed office in 2019. He was among three commissioners who initially declined to defect when others followed Fintiri out of the PDP on February 27, 2026.
