Veteran Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, widely known as K1 or Kwam1, has written to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to protest his alleged exclusion from the nomination process to fill the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland throne.
In the petition, K1 appealed to the governor to ensure that the selection exercise is carried out strictly in accordance with existing laws and laid-down procedures.
The formal petition, dated January 8, 2026, was submitted through his legal counsel, Wahab K. Shittu, SAN. In it, the singer called on the Ogun State Executive Council, through the governor, to step in and address what he described as deliberate attempts to shut him and other qualified princes out of the nomination process.
K1 alleged that leaders of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House were taking steps that could unfairly exclude certain family members from participating in the selection exercise.
He maintained that actions so far taken by the Ijebu-Ode Local Government and the ruling house were inconsistent with due process and existing legal frameworks.
The artiste objected to directives issued by the ruling house requiring aspiring candidates to purchase nomination forms and submit themselves to a screening panel. He argued that such requirements were not provided for under the Chieftaincy Declaration or the Obas and Chiefs Laws of Ogun State.
The letter noted that the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government had earlier instructed the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, in a letter dated January 6, 2026, to convene a statutory family meeting within 14 days to nominate candidates for the vacant stool. However, while preparations for the meeting were ongoing, a notice allegedly issued by one Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa, who identified himself as the family’s Public Relations Officer, introduced additional procedures, including screening and delegate-based nominations.
The notice reportedly announced that the nomination exercise would hold on January 12, 2026, at the Bisrod Event Centre, Ijebu-Ode, with delegates to be selected at a prior meeting scheduled for January 10.
K1’s counsel described these developments as illegal and warned that they could lead to disenfranchisement of legitimate members of the ruling house. The letter stressed that every qualified member of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has the right to participate freely in nominating candidates and that no faction should monopolize the process.
The petition cautioned that attempts to impose screening panels and delegate systems contradict both the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Laws of Ogun State, 2021, and could trigger avoidable disputes.
The Fuji star therefore appealed to Governor Abiodun to act swiftly in the interest of fairness and transparency, adding that any move to unlawfully bar him from the process would be strongly challenged.
It would be recalled that K1 had earlier withdrawn a case filed at the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode, where he challenged claims by the ruling house that he was not recognized as a bona fide member of the family.
Meanwhile, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is expected, unless there is a last-minute change, to conduct the nomination exercise on Monday at the Bisrod Event Centre, Ijebu-Ode.
