The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has refuted reports alleging a confrontation between his administration and the Council of Afobajes over the Awujale succession process.

According to official sources, the reports are false and misleading.

This clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade.

The statement explained that the governor held a respectful and consultative meeting with the Council of Afobajes, similar to previous engagements with the Olori Ebis, which had earlier helped resolve divisions and led to the withdrawal of a court case by one of the kingmakers.

“The discussions he had focused on matters of mutual concern in the interest of the progress in traditional affairs within Ijebuland,” the statement said.

It further stressed that claims suggesting intimidation or threats by the governor were untrue, noting that statements attributed to him, including “No Kuye, No Awujale,” were completely fabricated and had no connection to the governor or his administration.

“No Afobaje will attest to such an occurrence, as it never happened. This is once again the fabrication of falsehoods by mischief makers,” the statement added.

Governor Abiodun, according to the statement, remains committed to due process, respect for the autonomy of traditional institutions, and a transparent and fair selection process for a new Awujale of Ijebu.

The government also urged members of the public, traditional stakeholders, and the media to disregard unfounded insinuations and rely only on verified information from official sources, reaffirming the governor’s respect for the Awujale throne and the cultural values of Ijebuland.
