Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has congratulated former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, on his 85th birthday, describing him as a respected elder statesman whose years of service have left a lasting mark on Nigeria’s political and military history.
Mohammed, in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, said Babangida played an important role in the country during some of its most challenging periods.
The governor acknowledged that Nigerians may hold differing opinions about aspects of Babangida’s time in office, but said his contributions to national development, unity and stability remain an important part of Nigeria’s history.
“At 85, Your Excellency, you stand as an enduring figure in Nigeria’s national story. Your journey through military and public service reflects a life devoted to the service of our dear nation at some of its most challenging moments,” Mohammed said.
The Bauchi governor also praised Babangida for remaining involved in national discourse and providing guidance to younger generations of Nigerian leaders.
He noted that the former military president had maintained a strong relationship with the people of Bauchi State, describing his fatherly disposition towards Nigerians as commendable.
“On behalf of my family, the Government and the good people of Bauchi State, I warmly felicitate with Your Excellency on this significant milestone.
“Bauchi State joins your family, friends and well-wishers across Nigeria in celebrating 85 years of life, service and experience,” he said.
Mohammed prayed for Babangida’s continued good health, strength and peace of mind, while wishing him many more years of happiness and fulfilment.
He further expressed hope that the former military president would continue to share his experience and wisdom in support of Nigeria’s peace, unity and development.
