There was widespread relief on Wednesday following the release of Maryam, a young Nigerian woman who was abducted by suspected bandits.

Her freedom was confirmed after she appeared in a video call with popular media blogger D English Alhaji, where she was seen alive and in stable condition. The video has since circulated online, drawing emotional reactions from Nigerians who had closely followed her ordeal.

Maryam’s abduction had earlier sparked concern across social media after distressing clips emerged showing her in captivity, appealing for help. The incident further highlighted the growing insecurity and rising cases of kidnapping for ransom in parts of the country.

While the exact circumstances surrounding her release remain unclear, such cases often involve negotiations between victims’ families and their abductors.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding Maryam’s release or any arrests connected to her abduction.

Her safe return has, however, brought relief to her family and many Nigerians, while renewing calls for stronger security measures to address the persistent threat of kidnapping across the country.
