The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, has confirmed an attack on one of its checkpoints along the Wawa–Babanla Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Abubakar Muti, the attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 22, 2025, between 12:28 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.

The statement explained that an unspecified number of heavily armed bandits invaded the checkpoint and opened fire on officers on duty. The personnel, however, tactically withdrew from the location and escaped without injury.

Although no lives were lost, the assailants reportedly fled with the officers’ personal belongings, vandalised an operational Hilux vehicle by deflating its tyres, and made away with one G3 rifle.

The checkpoint is situated about three kilometres from Wawa town and roughly nine kilometres from the 221 Armoured Brigade Barracks.

DSC Muti confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident.

He added that the NSCDC is working in collaboration with other security agencies to track down the attackers and restore peace and security in the area.

The Command also assured residents of its continued commitment to the protection of lives and property across Niger State.
