Bandits armed with sophisticated weapons have raided villages in the Faskari Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State.

The bandits, reportedly wreaking havoc across three separate villages in the Faskari LGA, launched an attack on Yar Nasarawa village late on Monday, resulting in the death of at least six individuals.

Yar Nasarawa village, situated near the boundary with Zamfara State and approximately five kilometers from the Faskari Local Government headquarters, was targeted.

The village is situated close to the Nigerian Army Super Camp, established by Brigadier General Tukur Yusuf Buratai for ‘Operation Sahel Sanity,’ aimed at restoring peace in the North-West region, including Niger State.

According to a resident speaking to Channels Television via telephone on Tuesday, the assailants killed six people in Yar Nasarawa village alone and set eight vehicles ablaze.

“At Yar Nasarawa village alone, six people were killed and eight cars were set ablaze. One of the victims has just been buried this (Tuesday) morning in line with Islamic rites,” the source stated.

According to information gathered by Channels Television, an unspecified number of individuals were reportedly abducted, and numerous others sustained injuries during the attack. Additionally, six shops, including grain stores and motorcycles owned by residents, were set on fire.

In another incident, residents reported a similar attack in Madogara village within the same local government area, where another group of bandits rustled animals.

Police Confirm Attacks

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Police Command has confirmed that six persons have been killed and 10 others wounded as a result of the attack.

The hoodlums allegedly set three houses and 10 vehicles on fire.

In an official statement, police spokesman Abubakar Aliyu stated that a group of armed bandits, wielding weapons such as AK-47 rifles, launched an attack on the village.

The statement indicated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Musa, has promptly dispatched the command’s tactical, operational, and intelligence units to the scene. They are currently scouring the surrounding bushes in search of the perpetrators, aiming for their apprehension and subsequent diligent prosecution.
