Four students from Nasarawa State University (NSUK) in Keffi were reportedly kidnapped by suspected kidnappers in Angwan ka’are, a village in Keffi Local Government Area.
At 10:30 p.m. on Monday, several students were reportedly abducted outside the university campus. The students involved in this incident are Rahila Hanya, a 100-level student in SLT, Josephine Gershon, a 100-level student in Computer Science, Rosemary Samuel, a 100-level student in Business Administration, and Goodness Samuel, a 100-level student in the Geography department.
When contacted, Abraham Ekpo, the University’s Head of Information and Protocol, acknowledged that the university administration was aware of the situation. He confirmed that the university’s internal security team is collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to secure the release of the abducted students.
Verifying the kidnapping incident, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Police Command, stated on Tuesday that the command received information about the abduction of the students at approximately 12:55 a.m. This followed a distress call reporting that a residence in Angwan ka’are, Keffi, had been infiltrated by unidentified armed individuals.
”The police in collaboration with the military, responded accordingly when a distress call was received and commenced combing the area and are still on the trail of the abductors” DSP Nansel declared.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) mentioned that the Commissioner of Police has directed an intensive search for the perpetrators, aiming to secure the safe release of the victims without harm.
It’s worth noting that in recent times, Keffi Local Government Area has experienced a surge in criminal activities, including incidents such as the disappearance of male private parts, cases of rape, kidnappings, and various other crimes. These incidents have been particularly prevalent within the university community, especially in areas such as Angwan Lambu, the High Court vicinity, and some parts of the Local Government Area.
