Bandits kill four policemen on road duty in Zamfara

In a tragic incident that occurred on Monday on the Gusau-Sokoto road in the Bungudu Local Government area of Zamfara, a group of armed bandits attacked and killed four police officers who were on duty.

According to Haruna Musa, an indigene of the area, the bandits, who were in a significant number, ambushed the police officers near Bungudu town and fired upon them, resulting in the fatalities.

Musa said, “The police officers were on duty and mounted a roadblock not knowing that the bandits were hiding in a bush near the roadblock.

“The bandits suddenly came out of their hiding place and opened fire on the police officers, killing four of them.”

According to Musa, after the attack on the police officers, the bandits proceeded to a neighboring village where they engaged in cattle rustling and looted food items.

However, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Yazid Abubakar, acknowledged the occurrence of the attack but stated that he was not aware of any police casualties resulting from the incident.
