In an ambush by bandits in Bagega, a mining village in Zamfara State, at least 50 persons were kidnapped, including a district head, women, and children, while three others were reportedly killed.

Some villagers who confirmed the reality of the incident to The PUNCH said gunmen on motorbikes raided the village on Tuesday morning, shot indiscriminately, and set numerous houses on fire.

The village head, Abubakar Uba, confirmed the attack, telling Reuters that the gunmen kidnapped the district head before abducting hundreds of others in the area.

“They stormed the village on dozens of motorcycles, and their first stop was the district head’s residence. A few of them took him away with three members of his household before they entered the town and unleashed more harm,” Uba stated.

All efforts to speak with the state police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, for his comments on the attack were fruitless as he did not respond to calls or messages sent to his phone, as of the time of filing this report.
