Bauchi APC gov candidate rejects election results

The results of the governorship election held in the state on Saturday have been disputed by retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, the APC’s candidate for governor in Bauchi State.

In Bauchi, the state capital, on Monday night, he made this announcement during a press conference.

The election, in Abubakar’s opinion, was tainted by fraud.

According to reports, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Sen. Bala Mohammed of the People’s Democratic Party the election’s victor on Monday.

Mohammed, the incumbent governor, received 525,280 votes, defeating Abubakar, who received 432,272 votes.

Abubakar said, “Our preliminary interrogation of INEC e–platforms produced evidence of unprecedented manipulation of the results in total disregard of extant electoral laws and rules.

“It is clear to us that based on what we now know, I am the clear winner of this election.

“How else can someone explain the results from Toro, Warji, Zaki, Alkaleri and Bauchi Local Government Areas, where violence led to the cancellation of results among others”.

He added that the party would talk to interested parties before deciding how to respond to the declared election results.

Yet, he thanked the state’s citizens for their support of him and the party throughout the election and pleaded with them to maintain calm and harmony.
