Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to a Facebook post by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah.
Alabrah revealed that the governor stepped down from the party alongside the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP lawmakers in the assembly.
Diri’s exit ends months of speculation about his rumored defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), though Alabrah did not disclose the party he intends to join.
The governor made the announcement on Wednesday during the weekly State Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Yenagoa.
It was also reported that the governor has submitted his resignation letter to the party.
