Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, have urged Nigerians, especially the Muslim faithful, to use the Eid-al-Adha period to pray for peace, unity, and national progress.

They described the annual celebration as a reminder of sacrifice, devotion, and compassion, calling for greater solidarity across the country.

Speaking during an Eid gathering at the Government House in Benin City, Okpebholo, represented by his deputy Dennis Idahosa, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusiveness and equal opportunity for all citizens regardless of religion or ethnicity.

He said his government had continued to appoint competent Muslims into key roles, stressing that governance in Edo State is based on fairness and merit.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the Muslim community for their prayers and support, noting that such goodwill has contributed to peace and development in the state.

He further called on Nigerians to pray for President Bola Tinubu and the nation as it works through economic and security challenges.

In separate remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, praised the administration’s inclusive approach and its relationship with the Muslim community.

The Chief Imam of Edo State, Abdulfatai Enabulele, commended ongoing development projects in the state while urging government to complete abandoned infrastructure inherited from previous administrations.

On his part, Emir Bayero encouraged Muslims observing the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia to pray for peace and stability in Kano State and Nigeria.

He also advised wealthy Muslims to support the less privileged during Eid by sharing sacrificial meat and extending kindness to those in need.

The Emir prayed for those unable to perform the sacrifice this year, asking for their opportunity in the future.

He further urged Nigerians to choose credible and capable leaders ahead of the 2027 elections and to participate actively in the democratic process.

Bayero also raised concerns about rising youth involvement in drug abuse and crime, calling on parents to be more vigilant.

He commended security agencies for their efforts in maintaining order and praised the Kano State Government for ongoing development projects across the state.
