Bello Turji is reportedly on the run as troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully eliminated numerous terrorists, including the son of the notorious terror kingpin, during a raid in Zamfara.
In a statement released on Sunday, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations for the Armed Forces, revealed that the operation took place on January 17.
The coordinated effort involved ground troops and the air component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, conducting clearance operations across Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa, and Chindo.
The statement confirmed that several terrorists, including Turji’s son, were neutralized at Fakai high ground, a known hideout for the group.
News of the operation, including the deaths of Turji’s son and loyalists, has sparked widespread reactions on social media, particularly in the Arewa community, with many expressing excitement. Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared the development on his verified X account, reporting that Turji is now fleeing.
The Army added that the operation inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists, destroyed their logistics hubs, and led to the rescue of several hostages previously held captive by Turji’s group.
“The terrorist leader, Bello Turji, in a gross cowardly act escaped abandoning his son and combatants,” the statement added.
In a related development, the troops said they also destroyed another terrorist kingpin camp known as Idi Mallam along Zango Kagara Forest.
During the encounter, the troops said they neutralised three terrorists and arrested three suspected collaborators.
“Furthermore, troops recovered two machine guns, one AK47 Rifle with a magazine containing 11 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition. Additionally, 61 rustled cattle, and 44 sheep were rescued among other sundry items.
“Troops are sustaining the onslaught against the terrorist. Overall, troops continue to demonstrate commitment to the safety and protection of all citizens across the country,” the statement added.
