The Tiv Traditional Council, led by Tor Tiv Prof James Ayatse, has facilitated peace talks between Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
Following their private meeting, the once estranged political allies, who had been locked in a tense standoff over the governance of the North Central state, reconciled amidst the cheers of their supporters.
The conflict escalated with the recent establishment of a splinter faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Executive Council by the governor, prompting police intervention to secure the APC State Secretariat and prevent potential violence.
Concerned by the escalating crisis, the Tiv paramount ruler and his council summoned the two leaders to the Tor Tiv Palace in Gboko to address their differences.
Ayatse informed reporters that peace has been restored between the two leaders and urged everyone to take tangible steps towards the state’s progress.
