Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has officially dissolved the Benue State Executive Council.

In the same announcement, the governor appointed Moses Atagher, a former two-term Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, as the new Chief of Staff.

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was made public in a statement issued on Wednesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula. Atagher, described as a seasoned administrator, also previously served as acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank.

The dissolution of the council was made known at the conclusion of the 12th (2025) meeting of the Benue State Executive Council.

“He (Alia) appreciates all the former commissioners who worked with him for two years, calling on those who may not be called back or reappointed to stay in the party and continue to liaise with the system, as they are only paving the way for other citizens who may be chosen to replace them to also contribute their quota.”

The governor clarified that aside from the appointment of a new Chief of Staff, the dissolution applies solely to the commissioners.

Speaking on behalf of the outgoing commissioners, Bemsen Mnyim expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve.

“According to him, ‘…at every stage in life, everywhere you are called to serve is a school. We have learnt a lot while working with you.’”

The former commissioners have been instructed to hand over their duties to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries without delay.
