Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has signed the state’s Electricity Bill into law, marking a major move aimed at strengthening power supply and improving economic development across the state.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev.

According to the statement, the new law is expected to open up the electricity sector to more investment, encourage competition, improve consumer protection, and expand access to power, especially in underserved communities.

Alia described the legislation as “a landmark step towards accelerating economic growth, improving power supply, and creating sustainable development opportunities across the state.”

He said the law would help boost business activities, attract investors, create jobs, and improve services in both urban and rural areas of the state.

The governor also commended the State House of Assembly for passing the bill and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a favourable environment for development and investment.

He noted that although the law ought to have been enacted earlier, his government remains focused on removing delays and driving progress.

Alia further expressed confidence that the reforms would support long-term development goals and deliver lasting benefits to future generations.

The bill was earlier passed by the Benue State House of Assembly as part of wider efforts to improve infrastructure, regulation, and power management in the state.
