The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla was celebrated on Saturday, and US President Joe Biden praised the “enduring friendship between the US and the UK” in his congratulations.
In a tweet, the US president referred to the bilateral relationship as “a source of strength for both our peoples” despite missing the ceremony in London.
First Lady Jill Biden was there instead, and the president tweeted that he was “proud” she could be there “for this historic occasion.”
In a Friday interview, Biden stated that he would meet with the next queen in July to specifically discuss the environment.
“We’re going to be going to a NATO conference in Europe, and I told (Charles) I’d stop either on the way there or the way back, to discuss what he really is passionate about, the environment,” Biden told MSNBC.
The annual NATO summit is scheduled for July 11 and 12 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Early in April, Biden called Charles to congratulate him on becoming king.
