Binance CEO calls on Elon Musk to tackle bots on X platform

Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has called on Elon Musk to ban API-generated posts on the X platform to address the issue of bots.

In a tweet on March 9, CZ stressed the need to restrict posting through APIs, even though tools like Grok, ChatGPT, and DeepSeek can generate tweets. He also clarified the distinction between automated bots and AI agents, highlighting the practical benefits of AI for tasks such as hotel bookings and coding.

X has endured continuous problems with bot activity that particularly affects the crypto community through mass distribution of scam content and deceptive token advertisements and phishing links.

The bot problem continues to bother X users even after Musk purchased the platform in 2022.  Musk has suggested solutions such as requiring users to register a credit card for a small fee to discourage the creation of fake accounts by bot farms.

Crypto users have voiced concerns about bots impersonating industry leaders to push fraudulent tokens or redirect users to malicious sites. These bots are also involved in “romance scams,” where fraudsters build trust with victims over time before asking for money through fake investment schemes or fabricated financial crises.

A 2023 study conducted by the Network Contagion Research Institute established that bots exploit their collective power to create fake posts which artificially boosts altcoin prices.

Users of X continue to face the bot problem while they wait for Elon Musk to implement stronger measures to safeguard platform integrity.
