Two police officers were killed, and one critically injured, during an attack on a police station in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State by Boko Haram terrorists.

The attack occurred around 11:00 pm on Wednesday, according to security sources, though a police statement noted it began at approximately 12:10 am on Thursday.

Officers on duty, supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force stationed nearby, engaged the attackers in a gun battle, eventually repelling them. Despite the violence, no facilities or security equipment were damaged.

The Borno State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, confirmed that grenades were recovered at the scene during an assessment by the Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Lawal.

“Gallant officers on watch repelled the terrorists after a series of gun exchanges. Unfortunately, hand grenades thrown by the attackers fatally wounded two officers,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police commended the bravery of the officers who defended the station and extended condolences to the families of the deceased. The situation in Gajiram has since been brought under control, with the police reaffirming their commitment to ensuring security and stability in the area.
