For this year’s Eid el-Fitr celebration, the Federal Government has declared Friday, April 21, and Monday, April 24, 2023 as public holidays.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. M.L. Shuaib Belgor, the proclamation was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of the Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

He sent all Muslims his congratulations on the successful conclusion of the fasting month of Ramadan.

As demonstrated by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), Ogbeni Aregbesola urged all Muslims to adopt and put into action the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, self-denial, sacrifice, and good neighbourliness.

“The self-restraint, self-denial, sacrifice and deep spiritual consciousness that accompanied the fasting period should not end but be maintained and improved upon, in order to be a better person and true worshipper,” the minister advised all Muslims.

Aregbesola said that President Muhammadu Buhari was completely committed to a smooth transfer of power after victorious elections. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing security for every citizen and foreign visitor to the nation’s property.

The minister applauded the security services for their achievements in the nationwide fight against crime.

Noting that security is everyone’s responsibility, he asked Nigerians to contribute to the country’s security framework by being watchful and reporting suspicious people and activities to local law enforcement agencies. He urged Nigerians to use the N-Alert app to report any suspicious activity and people.

Aregbesola wished all Muslims a happy Eid il-Fitr celebration and prayed “that the peace, blessings and favour of Allah be with you all. Ameen.”
