Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, saying the move was necessary for his political development and continued dedication to public service.
Ochei confirmed his exit from the party in a resignation letter dated May 8, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward 4 chairman in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The development was revealed on Thursday in Asaba by his media aide, Austin Edemodu.
According to the former lawmaker, the decision came after extensive consultations and deep reflection.
Ochei explained that since joining the APC in 2016, he had played an active role in strengthening the party through grassroots mobilisation and political activities across Delta State.
“Together with many committed party faithfuls, we expanded the party’s reach, deepened its structures, mobilised support across communities, and worked tirelessly to give the party relevance and visibility within our political environment,” he said.
He noted that his departure was aimed at allowing him pursue his political beliefs and vision for public service on a broader platform.
“It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course,” Ochei said.
He stressed that his resignation was not motivated by bitterness or ill feelings towards anyone.
The ex-speaker also appealed to his supporters to remain calm, peaceful and committed to democratic values.
However, he did not reveal the political party or platform he plans to join next.
