The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate Eid-el-Kabir.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

The government said the decision reflects its recognition of the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims who observe the festival alongside the global Muslim community.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and abroad on the occasion, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a deeply significant religious festival centred on sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for others.

He urged Nigerians to use the holiday period for prayer and reflection for peace, security, and national prosperity.

The statement encouraged citizens to seek divine guidance for the country as it continues to pursue stability and development.

It also called on Nigerians to embrace unity, brotherhood, and peaceful coexistence during the celebrations.

The Federal Government wished all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyful Eid-ul-Adha.
