Health workers under the Joint Health Sector Unions and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations are staging a protest at the Unity Fountain.
The demonstration is in opposition to the proposed health sector regulatory bill currently before the National Assembly.
The protesting workers argue that the bill, if passed, would place all medical professions under the authority of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
They insist that each health profession already has its own regulatory body, adding that the proposed legislation seeks to reduce other healthcare professionals to second-class status compared to medical doctors.
The protesters plan to proceed to the National Assembly, where they intend to present their concerns directly to lawmakers.
