An explosion, suspected to be from a planted Improvised Explosive Device (IED), occurred at the popular Buni Yadi market in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Ali Hassan, a resident of Buni, informed Channels Television correspondent via telephone that the explosion happened around 12:30 PM, injuring a girl.

Captain Muhammad Shehu, spokesman of the Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the incident, stating that another IED planted in the market was discovered and successfully detonated by the Army.

He added that the only victim of the explosion is currently receiving treatment at a health facility in Buni Yadi.

Shehu emphasized that the incident involved a planted IED and was not a suicide bombing.

Buni Yadi, located 54 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital, was previously the most affected local government area in Yobe State, under Boko Haram insurgents’ control for two years.
