BREAKING: Man United sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of Chelsea clash
Manchester United have confirmed the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager following a poor run of form, culminating in a 4-1 defeat to Watford on Saturday.
Pressure had mounted on the Norwegian following a 5-0 hammering to Liverpool and an equally insipid 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, both taking place at Old Trafford.
A 3-0 win against Tottenham in between appeared to have got things back on track but the convincing defeat to Claudio Ranieri’s side appears to have been the final straw for the United board.
United face Chelsea in the Premier League next weekend, with Michael Carrick set to take temporary charge, whilst the club searches for its new permanent boss.
In a statement, the club said: “Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision.
“While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.
“Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a manager who gave us many great moments
