Several passengers were injured on Monday morning after an incident involving a train on the Abuja–Kaduna Railway Line caused operations to be temporarily disrupted.
The passenger train, which was travelling from Kaduna to Abuja, was unable to complete its journey as planned after the disturbance occurred along the busy corridor connecting Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory.
A source within the Nigerian Railway Corporation confirmed the incident on condition of anonymity, noting that he was not authorised to speak publicly on the matter.
Passengers said the event happened unexpectedly, causing panic as the train came to a sudden stop. Some reported hearing a loud impact before the train jerked sharply, throwing people off balance and creating chaos inside the coaches.
Eyewitness accounts suggested that the Abuja-bound train may have collided with another train along the route, prompting a temporary suspension of services while authorities assessed the situation.
Reports indicated that several travellers sustained injuries, including cuts and bruises, after being thrown against seats and metal surfaces within the train compartments.
One passenger, who shared details on social media, described the experience as frightening, stating that the sudden movement left many unprepared. He added that the train remained halted for about 30 minutes before continuing slowly toward Kubwa, on the outskirts of Abuja.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the NRC confirmed the development and said an official statement would be issued.
