Heavy security presence was observed at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja as former Vice Chairman (North Central), Abdulrahman Mohammed, officially resumed duties as the party’s acting national chairman.

Earlier, Mohammed and his supporters had gathered at the PDP FCT office, where he informed the crowd that he would be assuming leadership of the party in an acting capacity.

Mohammed’s appointment followed a declaration by the Samuel Anyanwu-led National Working Committee (NWC), which named him acting chairman after the suspension of National Chairman Umar Damagun and National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba.

The internal crisis within the PDP intensified over the weekend when Damagun, alongside some NWC members, suspended National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, National Organising Secretary Umar Bature, and other key officials.

In response, Anyanwu’s faction announced a counter-suspension of Damagun, Ologunagba, and four other principal officers, further deepening the leadership tussle.

On Monday, while Abdulrahman Mohammed, aligned with the Anyanwu faction, resumed at the party’s national headquarters, Damagun and his loyal NWC members were notably absent.

Mohammed, in his capacity as acting national chairman, addressed journalists at the PDP headquarters, reaffirming his commitment to restoring stability within the party.
