President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned Nigeria’s first Professor of Geology, Mosobalaje Oyawoye, describing him as ‘a prolific scholar and thinker who stood for national aspiration and progress’.
According to a statement by the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the deceased ‘was steadfastly committed to the progress of the nation’.
In a message to his family and kinsmen in Offa, Kwara State, President Buhari expressed sadness that the nation had, of late, ‘been losing elder statesmen and indeed great men who have accomplished so much and hugely on the lives of many Nigerians. Almighty Allah knows best. May they rest in peace.
“My thoughts are with the family of the deceased, his friends and the countless admirers he left behind in this hour of grief. The nation will miss him immensely. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement reads.
