Bashir Ahmad, the former personal assistant on new media for President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired), has been appointed as Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications.

In a letter of appointment dated  July 20, 2022 and addressed to Ahmad, Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, officially announced the appointment.

Mustapha said that the appointment became effective on July 19, 2022.

About two months before to the appointment, the presidential media aide had been unsuccessful in securing the APC’s nomination for the Federal House of Representatives for the Gaya, Ajingi, Albasu Federal Constituency in the May 2022 primary elections.

According to reports, Ahmad resigned from his prior post as the President’s personal assistant in accordance with President Buhari’s order that all political appointees who are running for office retire.

Ahmad is thought to be the only presidential aide the president has “recalled” since the end of the APC primaries. He has been seen by our correspondent several times at the State House.

All cabinet members and presidential assistants who left their positions to run for various APC positions but were unsuccessful in getting the tickets were not restored.
