Following reports that a British-era bridge in Gujarat’s Morbi collapsed on Sunday evening, President Muhammadu Buhari expressed heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India on Monday.
Aside from those who died, 177 of the 500 people were saved, and teams are looking for several others who are still missing.
Buhari’s condolences were expressed in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
The president said, “On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I wish to express my profound sorrow and sincere sympathy to the Prime Minister, families of the deceased, and the people of India following this tragic incident.”
He however prayed for recovery of all the persons who suffered injuries.
