Buhari, wife to attend United Nations General Assembly

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday depart for Abuja, for New York City, United States of America, to attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

“President Buhari will take his turn to deliver the national statement on the second day of the general debates on Wednesday, September 21, 2022,” a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, read on Saturday.

The statement is titled, “President Buhari attends 77th United Nations General Assembly.”

Themed “A Watershed Moment: Transformative Solutions to Interlocking Challenges,” the annual meeting of world leaders will highlight key issues such as the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, climate action, ending the COVID-19 pandemic, and a special transforming education summit.

Asides from his statement, the President will also participate in high level meetings and side events, including the Nigerian International Economic Partnership Forum, convened by Nigeria in partnership with the Business Council for International Understanding; Strengthening Coordination. The National Humanitarian Development Peace Framework: A practical approach to sustainable, durable solutions, to ensure no one is left behind, organised by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development; and the EFCC-NEPAD Programme on combating Illicit Financial Flows.

While in New York, Buhari will also undertake bilateral strategic talks with world leaders, eminent investors, and the leaders of global corporations.

Aisha Buhari, the President’s wife, as well as some governors, ministers, and other government figures will go with him.

The President will return to the country on September 26.
